"This is a very modern building on an historic site at the corner of Lower Claremont Bank and St Austin Friars. It was here in the 13th century that the Austin friars established their religious house. The friary stood on a plot immediately outside the defensive stone walls around Shrewsbury. In the early 14th century, the borough allowed the friars to have a fortified postern gate through the town wall." Read more on Wetherspoon's website
